Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 16, 2026

Your privacy is important to us. It is Chattto's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you across our website and browser extension. Chattto is made by Kappa.

1. Data Storage & Syncing

Chattto is designed to be a local-first application. Your browsing data, tab history, and settings are stored locally on your device within the browser's storage.

  • Google Drive Sync: If you opt in to Google Drive Sync, Chattto backs up your data to a folder in your own Google Drive. It can only see the files it creates there, and we never see them (see section 3).
  • AI Tab Organization: Only when you ask Chattto to organize your tabs with AI, it sends those tabs' titles, their addresses without query strings or fragments, their page descriptions, any instructions you typed and a random identifier of your installation to our server, hosted on Cloudflare, where Cloudflare Workers AI groups them. Titles, addresses and descriptions are not stored. For 7 days we keep the group names, the number of tabs and groups, and when the request was made, for diagnostics. Your IP address is held for about two minutes to limit request rates.
  • Shared Sessions: Only when you share a session as a web page, Chattto sends that session's name, when you shared it, and its tabs' titles and full addresses (query strings included) to our server, hosted on Cloudflare. They are stored there for 30 days and then deleted automatically. During that time anyone with the link can see them, so share only sessions whose addresses you are happy to make public.
  • Nothing Else Leaves Your Device: Apart from the requests above, your browsing data never reaches a server controlled by us. We do not sell your data.

2. Information We Collect

The Chattto browser extension processes the following information locally on your device to provide its core functionality:

  • URLs and Titles of the tabs you visit.
  • Visible text content of web pages, used for local Full-Text Search. It is never sent to us; with Google Drive Sync on, it is part of the backup in your own Google Drive.
  • The sessions, quick notes, site rules and settings you create.

3. Google User Data

When you connect Google Drive, Chattto asks Google for a single permission (drive.file), which gives it access only to the files Chattto itself creates. Chattto uses it to:

  • create, read and update files in a chattto-data folder in your Drive: your open tabs, your history with its page text, quick notes and site rules, in one folder per browser;
  • show in Settings which of your browsers back up to that Google account, with each one's browser name, operating system and last activity;
  • read your Google account's internal identifier, to notice when you switch to another account.

This data travels directly between your browser and Google. It never passes through our servers, and we cannot see it. The sign-in token Google gives Chattto stays in your browser's memory and is discarded when the browser closes. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it or transfer it to anyone, and no person at Kappa reads it.

4. Third-Party Services

Chattto integrates with Google Drive APIs for cloud synchronization. Chattto's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. AI tab organization runs on Cloudflare Workers and Cloudflare Workers AI. Shared sessions are stored in Cloudflare Workers KV and shown through a page hosted on GitHub Pages.

5. Your Choices and Deleting Your Data

  • Sign out of Google Drive in the Chattto popup to stop backing up. Files already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
  • Remove a browser's backup from Settings → Synced browsers. It goes to your Drive's trash, which Google empties after 30 days. You can also delete the chattto-data folder in Google Drive yourself.
  • Revoke Chattto's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/connections.
  • Uninstalling Chattto deletes everything it keeps in your browser.
  • Records of AI organization requests are deleted after 7 days, and shared pages after 30 days.
